This blog is intended to be the definitive guide to John Williams's score for the original Star Wars (1977), arguably the best film score ever written. It begins with a general overview of the stylistic choices made by Lucas and Williams, it then suggests how the leitmotifs so accurately represent their characters, and then it presents an in-depth analysis of the entire score in relation to the film, before concluding with a discussion of the reception of the film and its music. There are videos provided throughout which demonstrate certain points using music and image. Several of these attempt to recreate Lucas's original temp track and offer direct comparisons between this and Williams's score.
